Frequently Asked Questions

We provide three core services: audit and assurance, tax solutions, and advisory. That means we can audit your statements, plan and file your taxes, and fix the accounting processes underneath — without you needing to coordinate three separate firms.

Most of our clients are small and mid-sized businesses and nonprofits — typically companies with real financial complexity but without a large in-house accounting department. We work with organizations from a few million in revenue up through mature multi-entity operations.

Technology, entertainment, hospitality, nonprofit, and small to mid-sized business. Each brings its own reporting demands, and we’ve built specific experience in the issues that come up repeatedly in each.

Yes. Hamdan CPA is a licensed California public accounting firm, and our work is performed under professional standards set by the AICPA and the California Board of Accountancy.

Reach out through the contact form or call us directly. We’ll set up a short introductory call to understand where your financials stand, what you need, and whether we’re the right fit. If we are, you’ll receive a written scope and fee proposal before any work begins.

Yes. We prepare federal returns and state filings, including multi-state returns for businesses with employees, customers, or property in more than one state.

Yes. Back filings, penalty abatement requests, and payment arrangements are routine work for us. The situation is almost always more fixable than it feels — the important thing is to start before the agency escalates.

Send it to us before responding. Many notices are automated and some are simply wrong, but nearly all carry deadlines. We’ll tell you what it actually means and prepare a documented response on your behalf.

Both — and the planning is where most of the value is. Once the year closes, your options narrow considerably. We work with clients throughout the year so decisions get made while they can still change the outcome.

Yes. Whether an S corp, C corp, LLC, or partnership is right for you depends on how you take income, how you’re growing, and where you operate — and the answer often changes as the business changes. We’ll model the alternatives and quantify the difference.

Yes. We offer ongoing accounting support, including monthly close, reconciliations, and financial reporting. Some clients hand off function entirely; others use us to supervise and review as an internal bookkeeper.

Yes. We work in QuickBooks Online and Desktop, Xero, NetSuite, and other common platforms. If your current system isn’t serving you, we’ll say so and help you migrate.

This is one of the most common reasons clients call us. Unreconciled accounts, miscategorized transactions, and books that don’t tie to reality are all fixable. We’ll assess the scope up front so you know what the cleanup involves before committing.

We start with a review of your existing records and systems, coordinate the handoff with your prior accountant, and identify anything that needs correcting before we take over. Most transitions are complete within 30 to 60 days, and we handle the outreach to your previous firm.

You work directly with a CPA. Your engagement is led by a licensed professional who knows your business — not routed to whoever is available.

We scope the work and quote a fee before we begin, so you know the cost in advance. Recurring work is billed at a flat monthly rate; project work is quoted per engagement. We don’t start work you haven’t approved.

Client data is handled through encrypted, access-controlled systems, and we do not share your information with third parties without your authorization. As CPAs we’re also bound by professional confidentiality standards under the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct.

No — and any firm that says otherwise is a firm to avoid. Independence rules prohibit us from auditing financial statements we prepared. We’ll tell you clearly which services we can combine and which we can’t, and help you structure the engagement correctly.

That’s a normal place to start. Describe the problem — the numbers don’t lie, a lender is asking for audited statements, the tax bill was a surprise — and we’ll tell you what’s actually required. Sometimes it’s less than you think.
